Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust selects Harlequin

Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust selects Harlequin to help build National Centre for Children’s Literature

Scottish charity, Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust (PPMBT) has chosen Harlequin’s CRM & fundraising software to underpin its next phase of campaigning, which aims to transform the site into the first National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling – complete with a Neverland Discovery Garden.

PPMBT was set up in 2009 to save Moat Brae House and garden from demolition and to celebrate its international literary connection as ‘The Birthplace of Peter Pan’; J M Barrie played in the ‘enchanted land’ at Moat Brae as a child and later said was inspired to write one of the most famous children’s stories in the world. The Trust’s fundraising campaign was launched by Patron Joanna Lumley in 2011.

In addition to the central charity CRM functionality to integrate internal processes, the PPMBT will use Harlequin’s charity software to manage its fundraising including grants, trusts, foundations, major donors, regular givers and corporate supporters. It will also use the system to develop a Friends scheme, co-ordinate its volunteer network and manage merchandise.

Cathy Agnew, PPMBT Project Development Director comments: “After five years, we were outgrowing a system that had grown organically with us. Over the next three years we are taking our fundraising to a different level and needed a robust system to help us increase capacity and scale.

“So many people and organisations want to be involved with the Trust so we need to make the most of these relationships for the long-term. Having the right technology behind us will enable us to achieve our vision and realise our full potential.

“After a thorough selection process, we chose Harlequin as we were reassured by the positive feedback from the reference sites we contacted. Customer service was an important consideration and it is evident Harlequin provides personal, easy-to-access support to its clients.”

Tom Ellis, Managing Director of Harlequin concludes: “We are increasingly working with more Scottish charities and are delighted that such a popular arts and heritage organisation has selected our software. We look forward to providing a complete charity management platform that will enable the team to mobilise their network of supporters, maximise fundraising and breathe life back into a site so pivotal to the Peter Pan legend.”

More about Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust

“For our escapades in a certain Dumfries garden, which is enchanted land to me, were certainly the genesis of that nefarious work – Peter Pan” J.M Barrie.

The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust was set up in 2009 to save Moat Brae House and garden from demolition and to celebrate its international literary connection as ‘The Birthplace of Peter Pan’. Its aim is to save and restore the ‘B listed’ Moat Brae house and garden in George Street, Dumfries, where J. M Barrie played as a child and was inspired to write one of the most famous children’s stories in the world, developing this into a national Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling.

The Trust’s fundraising campaign was launched by Patron Joanna Lumley in August 2011 who also announced the Windows Appeal in September 2013 and, as a result, the Trust was able to complete emergency works early in 2012 and Phase A restoration work in early 2014. The development of the next phase of the new Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling (Phase B) is being supported by, among others, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Creative Scotland.
